President Trump is directing the Commerce Department to start working on a new census. The Census is the basis for the distribution of hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding.
The president made the announcement with a post on Truth Social, “I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024. People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.”
Under the U.S. Constitution and the Census Act, the U.S. Census Bureau is required to conduct a count every 10 years of every resident of the country, regardless of citizenship or legal status. The next one is not due until 2030.
