Twenty Democrat-led states are suing the Trump Administration over new demands tied to food stamp recipients. The lawsuit claims the USDA is illegally seeking sensitive data on the 42 million people receiving SNAP benefits.
The USDA demands require states to provide a list of individuals who have applied or are currently receiving SNAP benefits, list of their immigration statuses in the U.S., and information including their marital statuses, their residential addresses, education and employment history.
States, including California and New York, face a July 30th deadline to comply or risk losing federal funding. The lawsuit is one of thirty-five that Democrats have filed against the Trump administration this current term.
