The next Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department is former Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass made the announcement Friday morning during a news conference. Previous Chief Michel Moore retired earlier this year, and interim Chief Dominic Choi has led the force since. Choi was not a candidate for the permanent job.
